Why Study in Australia?

If you are currently thinking of studying at an overseas educational institute, whether to improve your English language skills or just because you would like to experience life in a different country whilst working towards a degree, Australia is well worth considering as a study destination. When compared with the traditional alternatives, such as the UK and USA, it has plenty to offer students from all over the world and is currently the third favourite choice among those who choose to study abroad. For an insight into why it is growing in popularity, take a look at the list below.

  1. Easier visa application systemalthough there is still a fair amount of work involved in applying for a student visa for those who are interested in studying at Australian universities and colleges, most applicants find that the whole process is simpler and fairer than it is in other countries. British and US immigration officials in particular are renowned for their sometimes capricious attitudes that can make applying for visas something of a lottery.

  1. Multicultural environmentAustralia has welcomed immigrants from across the globe over the last century, resulting in a society that is truly multicultural in its makeup. This means that students from foreign countries find it very easy to fit in when they arrive and can always find fellow countrymen to converse with if they feel homesick. It also means that wherever you are coming from, you will probably be able to find restaurants and cafés close to your place of study that serve food with which you are familiar. This is especially true for those who choose to attend colleges in major cities such as Sydney.

  1. Lower cost of livingwhen compared to virtually anywhere in the United Kingdom or the United States of America, the cost of living in Australia is significantly lower. It is still necessary to provide evidence of sufficient funds for living costs, tuition fees and airfares when applying for a student visa, but because accommodation, food and utilities are cheaper than in the UK and USA, you will need less money in the bank before you are in a position to do so.

  1. A greater variety of job opportunitiesother developed nations can be very picky about the professions and disciplines they open up to overseas candidates whereas in Australia, a wider choice is available to foreign students who graduate from local universities. Gaining valuable work experience with multinational companies is one of the reasons that many people wish to study for a degree overseas in the first place so this is a big plus whether you plan to study in New South Wales, Queensland or any other part of the country.

  1. Government financial aidinternational students that wish to study certain subjects may qualify for a scholarship or fellowship from schemes such as the Australia Awards funded by the government. If you want to find out whether the course you are taking could possibly be partly funded by a scholarship, it is best to talk to the financial aid officer at the university in question. Some funding is dependent on the student making good grades throughout the course they are taking so you need to be serious about your studies if you are going to accept financial help from government bodies.

The climate and lifestyle in cosmopolitan cities are other reasons commonly cited by foreign students for choosing to study in Australia over other more established international education centres such as the UK, but the above five reasons are those that I think should carry most weight with serious undergraduates.

My Grand daughter has moved to Australia (Bairnsdale, Victoria) and will be 18 on July 16, 2015. She now has a student visa that is good until Nov. of 2015. She can stay past that time if she finds the following:

An online school with the following criteria:

Has to have a Cricos registered number
Has to be for international students and full time online
Course needs to last for 12 months
Can either be a tafe course or a university course or just a course that is cricos registered

We need assistance as I am in Hawaii and she is in Australia.

Her main interests would be Photography, Beauty|Makeup Artist or Therapist. However, this is not an all inclusive list. She might also look at

Nutrition and other possibilities.

Thank you for your valuable time.

Hi. I'm interested to study in Australia. I'd like to ask if you know an agency that could help me study and work there at the same time. Also, I'm a graduate of AB Psychology, but I want to pursue medicine. Can I take another degree program as my pre-med in Australia? Thank you and have a nice day. Love your blog!

Hi junaid,
I finished my bachelor of IT in 2014, I did not apply for 485 visa after graduating since I got husband .he is still international student. Then I decided to continue my study in Advanced diploma of community services work in order to help people. Now I tend to stay in Australia but I am not sure whether my current course is in SOl. And does I need to be registered nurse to fullfill the SOL occupation?
My course also takes 2 years to complete ,it includes cer IV,diploma and advanced diploma. I am currently doing certificate IV. Am I able to apply 485 visa for 18months after I finish my course.
The other view I am thinking , can I apply to study graduate diploma of IT for 1 year, then combine with my previous BIT degree to able to apply 485 visa? So do I need to release my current course and go back to my country to apply new student visa, which I just got one month ago. I am totally confusing and don't know what I should do.

This was quite helpful Junaid, my question might not be related to this but here it is:
My classes will start in February for Bachelor of Business in Melbourne Polytechnic and it's an institute. So what I'm worried about is will I be able to migrate/transfer from here to any renowned university e.g La Trobe or Swinburn university after a year or so?

Junaid Noor said...

@Taha

That depends whether your university will accept credit transfer from your current institute.

It is best you check with the university you plan to finally get admission in and verify with them.

Hi Junaid,

Hope you are well. I want to PhD from Australia and have been offered admission to M.Phil Course (Although I have applied for admission to PhD) at the university of Sydney. I have three years of experience working with an IT giant in Mainframes technology. I have been offered the scholarship from my state government for the PhD studies. I will be grateful if you could clarify me the following questions:

1) Does the Australian University generally first offer admissions in M.Phil and them convert it into PhD course. What are the chances that the M.Phil is updated to PhD.

2) What are my chances of getting a Permanent Residency looking at my work experience here in India and PhD course(if upgraded)duration which id four years.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Regards,
Amit

This is dependent upon university policy. I know friends who received admission into PhD straight after their bachelor degree.

2) What are my chances of getting a Permanent Residency looking at my work experience here in India and PhD course(if upgraded)duration which id four years.

You will need to check what the rules for applying for immigration are at the time of completion of your degree. The points system changes from time to time so its all dependent upon when what are the rules when its your time to apply.

Kind Regards
